Profile

Teamscience specialises in the strategic design and development of web systems for enterprises seeking to put any element of their business on-line. While employed at Teamscience, primarily as a developer, I was also responsible for the design of our own corporate identity, and deploying it both off-line and on-line. Our website was the major contributor to providing prospective clients with an introduction to our company, the services it offered and the team involved. It also acts as a resource for industry-related news.

Objectives

I approached this project with a fresh, simple, and functional site in mind. To accomplish this I used Macromedia's Flash 6 technology for the navigation and other design elements, CSS to seperate the content and presentation layers and for layout, and XHTML for the markup. The content of the site would be mostly static, except for the News section for which I built a basic CMS system - this allowed each employee to add/edit/delete their own news categories or articles.

Features & End Result

  • The site has a completely table-less layout, is very quick to download, easy to maintain, and has a fresh, simple look and feel to it. The flash imagery throughout is designed to visually translate our company ethos (ie. 'the first element') - the original idea was that these images would load at random, but I never found time to add more than one image.
  • The Flash navigation's highlighted option changes based on whichever section of the site is being viewed.
  • E-mail and RFQ forms allow potential clients to contact us (individually or collectively) or request a project proposal and cost estimate respectively.
