Damn the Icebergs, the Johannesburg-based cult-rock band, has released
its second CD, which is a departure from the more melodic mainstream
music that was on its first CD - God's Own Music. The earlier sounds of
tracks like Cycad (that received radio play) have been replaced by tight
rock dealing with South African societal issues in a way that demands to
be noticed.
This four-piece band has recorded and produced the new CD - Dances with
Snakes - entirely independently. It is a live one-take recording that
includes a remixed version of Try Being Me, which debuted on God's Own
Music, as well as Jesus of Brixton, Earthed, Tremble, Mazda, Snakes and
Eskimo Pie.
This band has an unmistakable sound that is easily recognisable.
Despite this unique style, they have managed to create seven very
different tracks that demonstrate the depth and variety they can offer.
The CD was launched on May 22 and will only be available at gigs or by
direct mail. The band will be playing at Camel Tavern in Pretoria on
July 11, before heading down to KZN.
