I have really bad sunburn! Spent the day on the beach with the dogs, taking photos, picking up shells, trudging through rock pools and other hippy stuff you find yourself doing when you have the freedom to do so (photo of beach toilets. no particular reason). Then went for dinner to Saddles (which overlooks the harbour - snapped this interesting shot) just before we were told by one of the locals: "HKGK"! The thunder storm hit Stilbaai around 7pm - nature at it's finest, very awesome. Tried to take some photos, but let me just say it requires lots of patience for a) lightning to strike in the exact area your camera's facing, and b) your camera to be taking a picture at the exact same split-second moment. Needless to say my efforts were poor (as the header shows) but better luck next time.

Went gambling yesterday at the Garden Route Casino, on the outskirts of Mossel Bay. Blew R200.. I mean, £17...playing Poker. ;) I don't trust those machines though, they're such a tease at the worst of times.

I'd post more photos but I left my notebook charger at J's flat before I drove through (doh!) so will update digicam.coza sometime this weekend. Ian: remove human error and notebooks are great otherwise. ;)

Claire's 21st on Saturday (a definately), J&B Met on Saturday (a maybe), and [insert big party-type vibe here] on Sunday.

London's rainy-day greys in my header photo have been appropriately replaced with a Table Mountain view from Justine's Kenilworth flat, and a sunset scene taken on my drive through to Stilbaai yesterday evening, where I'm spending the rest of this week. Everyone's well, the house is looking awesome (feels bigger than I remembered), and the dogs are crazier than ever. I might update with more this week, but there are beaches and a river a stone's throw from where I'm sitting so don't count on it. ;)

Last week I resigned from my job of 7 months. It's never an easy decision but I'm feeling confident it was the right thing to do. After taking on a number of freelance projects over the past couple of months I eventually found myself swamped, working through the early hours on week nights and over entire weekends. Working full-time and freelancing simultaneously is like following a Kit-Kat with orange juice. So as much as I like orange juice, I've decided to skip it for a while and 'Have a break' before reinventing my daily routine, or hopefully a lack thereof. Starting with a holiday! I fly back to Cape Town next Thursday.

Before I arrived in England, one of my Visa requirements was to compile an itinerary. I haven't completed a fourth of the items on that list, not that I intended to but they are admittedly things I should do and see while I'm here. And now thinking about it, I have over 10 things I want to do during my month back home. For starters, I'll be spending time with my folks and crazy dogs at their new house in Stilbaai, J&M at their flat in Kenilworth, and getting down with the mother city crew for momentous riots. We're going bigger than Sedna's orbit!

Then there are birthdays: Claire's 21st and Gaby's xxth ;). Rocking bands, camp fires, butternut soup and bathing in mountain rivers at Splashy Fen 2004, over the Easter weekend. And lastly flying Kulula-style up to Joeys for my Gran's phenomenal 90th birthday - which I anticipate will be a huge Nicol family gathering - before returning to summer in London. In between and weather dependent, I hope to make the most of what I've come to realise have taken for granted for the past few years living in the Cape: hike up Table Mountain, sundowners on Clifton 4th, a drive around the re-opened scenic Chapman's Peak, a visit to my parrot at the World of Birds in Hout Bay, student nights in Stellies.... and whatever else happens to happen.

Yebo!
