Spread The Love - "alternative e-cards for any occasion" - has received a small face-lift this weekend. Aside from some cosmetic changes and backend fixes, you can now sort cards by either date added (newest first) or by popularity. If you view by date you'll find a couple of new cards since my last update post, which brings the total number to 24.

When composing your card, you can now customize the greeting and sign off from a list of options, or by providing your own.

Lastly, I'm very proud to announce that Spread The Love has a new poster boy! Local bloggers will be very familiar with the kind-heartedness and loving nature of this man and we're thrilled he could spare a few minutes out of his busy schedule to give us some exposure.

Next on the cards is to allow for sending a card on a predefined date, and uploading your own photo for a card. Until then, if you're feeling creative and have any suggestions for either a new card or greeting/sign off phrase, please send your ideas using the contribute form.

Just in time for Valentine's Day. Spread The Love has relaunched with some new card designs, one or two new features, and a fresh design.

As mentioned previously, the site is now no longer based exclusively around Valentine's Day, so the cards will apply to just about any occasion. This will allow for new cards to be added throughout the year, or as and when an appropriate occasion arises. So keep those creative juices pumping and use the new contribute form if you come up with a goodie!

The confirmed line-up for Splashy in April currently includes The Parlotones, Bed On Bricks, Sitter, Chris Chameleon, Rory Eliot, Lark, Jack Hammer, The Hellphones, Taxi Violence. Oh and not forgetting Shy Guevaras and The Kiff, who I've listed just for their names alone. I've always spelt it 'kief'... must be a Durbs thing.

Tickets are on sale at Game Stores throughout KZN for a discounted price - ok yeah, that's nice, but how about next time inviting the other provinces to the party?

I also wanted to mention above that I'm using Snarfer for reading feeds, apposed to Thunderbird (which incidentally now runs 100x faster since I removed all my feeds). Great app - does what it should well, and better than most others I've tried.

And I have to wonder *blink*, did the Nudies draw inspiration for their latest website design from the Snarfer character?

Lastly, a quick update on Spread The Love. While News24.com think they can pull a fast one, I'm aiming to have the new system and fresh cards up sometime over the weekend. Still only 3 simple steps if you include clicking the "send" button. ;)

In just over three weeks it'll be time to Spread The Love again! (If you're unfamiliar with the concept you can read more here)

Having missed all the other holidays and special occasions over the past year, despite a determined effort for Mother's Day, I've decided to finally update the site - in a way that will allow it to accommodate any day of the year. So the cards won't cater specifically for Valentine's Day as they currently do.

Here's where you come in, dear reader - I'm going to replace some of the stale cards with fresh designs! If you have anything in mind and would like to contribute, even if it's just a concept in your head that you'd like me to execute on your behalf, please let me know. Drop me an e-mail and I'll send you more details. Also, take a look at the existing cards to get a feel for the style of design, and sense of humour. Full credit link lovin' will be sent your way, of course.

Ideally I'd like to replace 2 of the cards and add another 5, but this all depends on the response - so please give it some thought and get back to me ASAP if you have anything to add. Thanks!

This week, for Mother's Day on Sunday 14th May, we're doing things a little differently by inviting you to submit your own card designs and ideas. As an apparent trend, we're working with a limited timeframe and plan to have 10 cards up on the website by Thursday morning at the latest. So get your creative juices flowing, mix in a little fun, humour and local appeal, and see what you can come up with.

E-mail your design (in whichever format) to cupid [at] spreadthelove.co.za on or before Wednesday. Based on strength of idea and appropriateness of content, the 10 best cards will be selected and posted to the site, along with a credit to the person responsible. If you have limited design skill but have a great idea for a card, please e-mail that too and we'll happily execute if for you. Browse through the existing Valentine's Day cards for some inspiration.

The system is in place and ready to go, and we'll be adding in a new feature that will allow for cards to be created during the week, and then sent at a later date of your choice - this time around, we're guessing first thing on Sunday morning.

UPDATE [11/06]: Well, doesn't look like it's going to come together this time around - big apologies to the online Mothers around South Africa, time just wasn't on our side (I was going to say creative support, but that would just be disheartening) ;)

Some great ideas came in at the last minute (Mark has some winners) but there weren't enough to make it worthwhile. All is not lost however, they'll go up on the site eventually. Thanks to those that did give it a go, we love you for it. Craig and I got thinking about the next occasion already: how about Spring Day (1 September)? A month and a bit later it's Bosses Day... *evil grin*....
