Vodacom launched faster web browsing (GPRS) and multimedia services (MMS) in South Africa last week. Of Vodacom’s 7.2 million subscribers in its home market, more than 200 000 have GPRS-enabled phones, and over 10 000 have MMS phones.

A report from the Strategy Analytics Global Wireless Practice notes that 16 million camera phones will be sold worldwide in 2002, growing strongly to 147 million in 2007.
