Two quick updates
I'm testing out a new method for blocking comment spam. If you see a new 'subject' field in my comment form, please refresh the page (update your browser cache) to get the latest CSS file. If that doesn't remove it, then simply ignore it. Hopefully I'll have some success with this technique. Thanks to Jean at Quirk for the idea.
Secondly, some new card designs are up at Spread The Love:
- You bowl me over - for the Proteas fans
- Wil jy spyker? - "wanna screw?"
- Howzit hot stuff - you're hot as hell!
Enjoy!

an alternate way to force a CSS update is to rename your style.css to style1.css or something. It helps with version control and makes sure everyone is on the same page (so to speak).
Version Control isn’t in my vocabulary.. but I’m working on it. Another way would be to append a querystring to the end of the filename when calling it, eg. “style.css?ver=2″ … but I’m too lazy. :P
I tried a similar method, with hidden fields, etc. on my website, and my spam has been reduced a great deal since applying the code. Good luck with your attemps!
Secondly, dig the new cards on spreadthelove mate :)
i also tried Chris M’s method after he dropped me a line about it, but they weren’t falling for it because it was a simple hidden form field and they weren’t filling it in… but i tried the method you mentioned D and they are falling for it… so far so good!
so, hows the comment spam fix working for you? i finally implemented mine this afternoon! the past few days i have had an influx of scum attacking my comments (roughly 400). i’ll check tomorrow again, because they seem to start their spamming in the early hours of the morning…
I duno Sarah.. I am getting next to no spam after I implemented the code I gave you.. Last time I had spam via my guestbook was a couple weeks ago! Hmmm, strange, well I hope the new method you adapted is working!!
This is a spam-free zone!
Although, that ‘capetonian’ who commented here recently sneakily linked the words “Mango flights” in their comment to their own website. I don’t know about you but I consider that spam, so I changed the link back to my own site. Suck on that, you SEO slob!
Am using the hidden fields method with great success. thanks dude !
Cool jon, yeah it works like a charm – I’m loving it!
Yeah I just myself just updated my website to try and get rid of spam as well. I used spam karma, a plugin for WordPress which worked the best for me.
