Farryl Purkiss
I'm really hoping to support more bands and attend more music gigs/festivals this year. The biggest one for me is Splashy Fen in April which I've missed for the last 3 years. It's a bit of a mission to make the trip up but I'm determined to do it again this Easter Weekend, hopefully I'll assemble enough friends to join and make it worthwhile.
KZN's Farryl Purkiss played there last year, who I heard about recently, then caught his music video, and just now found more of his stuff at his MusoSpace page. He's been dubbed as SA's Jack Johnson/Donavon Frankenreiter. Watch Better Days on the tube:
And here's another vid featuring Footskater Vincy aka Twakkie (Footskating is not a crime!). Buy his album via Musica Online. Then there's The Parlotones at Kirstenbosch next Sunday!
007 will also be the year I eventually get my big idea off the ground (over a year later). Sorry, no clues - wait it out and watch this space, is all I can say!

SHOTGUN !!!
Hey leez, the first rule of calling shotgun is…
Okay…I’ll take the backseat. Dude, seriously looking forward to the big news thing – from you it can only be massive.
Wow, amazing never heard of Farryl before. Thanks for the vid links, the footskater one is sweet.
I missed splashy for the 1st time in 10 years last year… I’ll be seeing you there this year though, I’ll be camped out up by the dam ;)
The whole, “calling shotgun outside” rule is not familiar to me. Very interesting.
Can I shotgun preferred sleeping area now, not keen on sleeping on rocky hard underground again, like Rocking the Daisies.
Make sure you see Driverlane this year, they are brilliant. Saw them twice live in SA and I was only there for 3 weeks, once in cape Town and once in Durban, both times they were amazing!
Where are you guys getting ure ticketz from for the parlatones and do you know what time it starts?
This is going to be a concert of note!
SA Rock Rules!
Komodo: It starts at around 17h30 but I’d get there earlier to grab a good spot and to avoid the queues? I’ve never been so I can’t be sure. Check out the Summer Sunset Concerts guide:
Appletiser Summer Sunset Concert tickets will be on sale on the Friday and Saturday preceding each concert, from the Visitors’ Centre Ticket Kiosk only. On Sundays concert tickets will be available at all the entrances. Telephonic bookings (021 761 2866) can also be made on the Friday and Saturday before each concert. An administration fee of R10 per ticket is applicable for telephonic bookings.
Thanks for the info there… yesterday was awesome! The Parlatones were even better than Just Jinger at Kirstenbosch in December.
Excellent venue, excellent band!
Now I’m waiting for the Rudimentals at Kirstenbosch in March.
Here’s a link to photos from the concert on sunday that I took
Komodo: They never disappoint! I love how Khan apologized on the opening song when his voice stumbled.
Agreed with the venue, it doesn’t get any better than that – the vibe, the sound, the setting, the weather, awesome. Rudimentals and Flat Stanley, yeah! ;)
what have you done? i have become a parlotones groupie, listening to their tunes over and over again. a wicked afternoon, thanks for organising sweetie!
