Home-brewed Freshlyground Gets MTV Awards Nomination

Via Jetstreaker:

Cape Town based Afro-fusion group Freshlyground has scored an MTV Europe awards nomination in the Best African Act category. The ceremony will take place in Denmark later this year and, in a failed attempt to bring sexy back, will be hosted by Justin Timberlake.

Viewers across Europe and Africa can vote for their favourite bands, so let's all go and rock the vote for them here (nice site!). Also watch out for their third album slated for release in November.

And News24:

MTV Networks Africa said the five nominees representing the African continent at the 13th annual MTV Europe Music Awards would be upbeat Nigerian R&B twins P-Square, Tanzanian bongo flava star Juma Nature, Angolan R&B sensation Anselmo Ralph, Kenyan hip hop artist Nameless, and Freshlyground. Only one of the five artists will follow in the footsteps of Nigeria's 2-FACE Idibia, who won the inaugural Best African Act Award in 2005.

Awesome! If you've ever caught them live then you'll agree that they really deserve it.

that does sound weird. i bet there is not a lot of competition for best antarctica act. i don’t recognize any of those african nominees. i need to start listening to more music.
