Everything beyond the click

I attended an Apple South Africa gig - Everything beyond the click - at Canal Walk this evening. Some Scottish guy (I forgot his name) demonstrated Aperture which really impressed me only for it's RAW file handling. Everything he talked through was very entry-level and based on a template approach which I didn't find very appealing. I can't speak for the rest of the niche crowd (50% Apple users) they'd attracted though.

I don't like to think of myself as an Apple vs Microsoft person - I'll gladly take one of these babies if I could justify spending that amount on a display. Funny that they never mentioned any prices this evening. And then this greeted me when I got home - can't win either way. ;)

I shouldn't be blogging right now considering my current workload, bulging inbox and endless to-do list that requires immediate attention before I leave for Namibia on Friday, but this is probably the last chance I'll get until then. Timing hasn't been ideal, although that's probably because this trip has pushed me out of procrastination gear on loads of admin that I've been avoiding.

My head's between a million places. I'm often talking about one thing, doing another, thinking about another while thinking about thinking about another, etc. A break is definately in order. I'm craving some perspective again which a 9-5'er has a relentless way of distorting. I honestly don't know how people do it for years on end; life is more than that. What better place for that, than one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world.

I'm going to miss BarCamp Cape Town (16 - 17 June). Gah! I've been following the group discussions around this exciting un-conference event and hope it will be a huge success. So check it out if it's not too late! If you're going, I look forward to reading about it on your blog and checking out the photos.

I should get my camera back from repairs just in time. They've taken a month to replace the CCD but I can't complain, it's somehow not costing me. So I'm hoping to fill up lots of memory sticks and cds over the next month. I might blog on route through the major cities, or maybe moblog, we'll see.

One last thing. If you're proficient with PHP/MySQL, have a good understanding of standards-compliant XHTML & CSS concepts etc., some free time (a few hours a week) over the next month, and are based in or around Cape Town then please get in touch asap! You're wanted!

Now if I can just get that new Shakira single (and those hips) out of my head... hey wait, Keane have a new album. Love the cover - so... BarCampCapeTown'y. ;)
