Off to Namibia

Plans have come together sooner than I was anticipating, and so I'm off to our magnificent neighbour Namibia on the 16th for a three week camping roadtrip. As it turns out, now is the best time of the year to visit. I've been reading the recently published Footprint Namibia guide which contains a wealth of useful information and advice. Places we're planning to visit so far include:

  • Augrabies Falls on the way up, before crossing the border at the Orange River
  • The Fish River Canyon (second largest in the world)
  • Lüderitz and Kolmanskop
  • Sossusvlei (highest sand dunes in the world) in the Namib Desert region (the oldest desert in the world)
  • Swakopmund for some sandboarding and quad-biking
  • The Etosha National Park. Namibia is the first country in the world to include within its constitution the protection of the environment and sustainable utilization of wildlife. As evidence of this unique conservation, about 15% of the country is national parks.
  • The capital city Windhoek, and lastly
  • Keetmanshoop.

The most economic and productive route between these destinations is yet to be worked out, so if you have any advice on where to spend most of the 3 weeks I'd really appreciate it. Having said that however, I disabled commenting on my blog today due to an overwhelming amount (30+ daily) of spam, despite having implemented several anti-spam measures. So until I find a convenient solution, please use my contact form instead.

I just got back from a special Plush benefit gig (in aid of SADD) at the BMW Pavilion of all places. It's always great to see such strong support for local music. Bed On Bricks rocked the party and performed a great cover of 'Today'. Check them out (gig guide here) if you can!

I've discovered where Last.fm falls short: check out their Plush page. Some other band's albums, a "south african" tag, and both band's songs muddled in the charts. Meh.

Final thought: Arrive Alive. Don't drink and drive.
