Postcards from Paris
In 10 short days I'll be home in iKapa again, for an involuntary month's holiday; my yearly return flight was booked for this time. I'll be working on and off while I'm home though, inbetween soaking up some afrikan sun, Savannas and the best company of my family and friends. Escaping this London cold will rock, no doubt.
This past week I've been tweaking a few backend bits of this site. [Gill's 'blah blah' skip-ahead link]. The mindlessness of the spammer continues to fascinate me. My referrer spam was getting out of control, and using Apache's .htaccess method found at Caveat Lector I've noticed a considerable decline in attacks. Grab the snipped of my .htaccess file if you'd like a head start. Some rules you might want to comment/uncomment, depending on your preference. Such as the one which redirects "www.coda.co.za" to "coda.co.za".
Then I looked at implementing the much-hyped sIFR for my page titles instead of the current dynamically generated images. The width of the flash object didn't downsize with the rest of my site, and the text was less handsomely rendered, so I aborted that idea. It has potential, and with some effort and research could probably get it to do what I want, but right now I prefer the simpler PHP technique.
And to the front-end, I added News.co.za to my portfolio - a quick & simple design for an RSS-aggregated news portal.
Five songs I'm currently enjoying, what are yours?
- BT - Animals
- Ash - Renegade cavalcade
- The Calling - Our lives
- The Servant - Orchestra
- Sum 41 - Pieces
Coldplay vs. Sum 41. Download the mp3, hilarious. On that note, if you listen to Ash's 'Renegade cavalcade', does it remind you of anything else, particularly the chorus? It's been bugging me for weeks now.
